A journey through the rolling hill slopes, mesmerizing lush green tea gardens separated by meandering silvery mountain streams, high Sal forests, quiet ethnic villages, vast meadows with a blue outline of the great Himalayan ranges in the horizon and the endless sky…. This is Dooars. Mainly composed of the Districts of Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar, Dooars has numerous beautiful places to visit including hills, wild life sanctuaries, tea gardens, rivers and so on.
Lying in the Himalayan Foot-hills, Dooars has a great beauty. It is the gateway to the Hill Stations of Darjeeling – Sikkim Regions. The wildlife-rich tropical forests, innumerable hill streams cutting across the green carpet of tea gardens and undulating plains, low hills rising up from the rivers all make it one of the most picturesque destinations. The Dooars valley, stretching from the river Teesta on the west to the river Sankosh on the east, an area covering roughly 130 km by 40 km, forms a major part of the Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar districts and a little part of the Coochbehar and Darjeeling districts. General Information : Total Area: 114 Square Kilometer ,Latitude : 25° 58′ to 27 ° 45′ North, Longitude: 89° 08′ to 89 ° 59′ East, Altitude: 61 Meters Temperature: 2° C Min and 41° Max, Best Season: October to May, particularly March and April, when new grass is growing, Best Time to Visit: Between September and March, especially in winter to catch a view of the migratory birds and animals, Off Season: 15th June to 14th September (Sanctuary closed), Air: Bagdogra is the nearest airport with good connections to Kolkata, Guwahati and Delhi.
Some major tourist attractions of Dooars are --- Jayanti, Bhutanghat, Buxa Fort, Malbazar, Teesta River, Coronation Bridge, Phuntsholing, Chalsa, Jaldapara National Park, Buxa National Park, Gorumara National Park, Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary, Buxa Tiger Reserve, Chilapata, Rocky Island, Totopara, Lava-Lolaygaon, Murti, Jhalong, Bindu, Jaldhaka, Chalsa, Kalijhora, Rasikbil, Neora Valley National Park, Rajabhatkhowa, Mongpong, South Khairbari Tiger Rescue Centre and Leopard Rehabilitation Centre, Kunja Nagar, The Coochbehar Palace, Madan Mohan Temple, Juranti Tea Garden, The Hanuman Temple at Malbazar and so on. More than these there are many beautiful rivers to be visited in Dooars.
